TRACES OF DREAMS
Rating: 3 cups
Alicia Martin is a young woman who gives in to passion and becomes pregnant with her boyfriend Arthur’s child before he goes off to World War I. Unfortunately, Arthur is killed leaving Alicia to raise their son Arty. When her son Arty is still a toddler she meets Mathew Reede.
Mathew Reede is a gas man by trade and takes to Alicia on sight. While he easily falls for Alicia, Alicia is not so sure. Mathew does his best to win her over.
When a very unsavory character attacks Alicia and nearly rapes her, Mathew, after saving her insists that she, her younger sister Fiona and Arty move in with him, and his family. Alicia does not want to, but she sees the wisdom in the move as the man who attacked her could come back and this time he might finish the job. It is not long before Mathew asks Alicia to marry him, and Alicia finally agrees but only if she does not have to sleep with him. Mathew agrees hoping that she will eventually change her mind.
Traces of Dreams is an enjoyable book that takes you through the lives of Alicia and Mathew, as well as their eleven children. It is well researched with respects to both historical fact, and the vernacular used at the time. All the characters both the main ones and the secondary ones are very realistic and well portrayed. If you enjoy reading accurate historical accounts with your romance then this is the book for you.
