Carla Benevito was the CFO for an adult entertainment company in Chicago. She could hold her own in any boardroom, but being left in the wilds of Northern Wisconsin was definitely out of her comfort zone. The only thing that kept her going was seething anger and images of torture for her ex-boyfriend.
Jamie Roberts loved the peace that always came from the great outdoors. His job as a firefighter and search and rescue worker was satisfying but also very stressful. His dog Pixie was also his partner and they both needed some time away from work and from women.
Carla was ready to give up. She was sunburned, her ankle was twisted, and she had no idea where she was going. Following the stream seemed to be her best bet, and when she noticed a backpack stashed in a tree she felt like she had struck gold. Encountering the man that owned the pack just reinforced that feeling. He definitely stirred feelings in her that she thought was long dead. Jamie at 45 was a certain he would never find a woman he could love. His ex Brenda just reinforced those feelings. But finding Carla threw him for quite a loop. He had never met a woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, but Carla was quickly becoming that woman. How could he love a city girl when his whole life was all about the outdoors? Carla was about to take the biggest leap of her life; she just hoped that Jamie would be there to catch her.
Getting lost in the woods sounds like a great idea if all of the rescuers could be like Jamie. He is the epitome of a knight in shining armor, mature, gorgeous, and a truly good person. You can tell a good man by how he treats his dog, and Pixie is truly loved. Carla may think she is too old for love, but with Jamie that is no longer true. She is not about to let the “one” get away without a fight, so she goes for it. I loved every page. It is great to read a hot and sexy love story with two mature adults. Love just gets better with age.
