Celeste Nilson Walker is the social services director for the hospital in Aubrey’s Landing. She and her daughter, Mia, get along well, with no interference of any male in their life, until Ray returns and moves into the house next door.
Ray Fontana has thought of Celeste through the years. He loved his women soft and voluptuous. Celeste was neither, more like a snow cone. He had left his life in Aubrey’s Landing, as well as her far behind, but now he has returned and this time the need for her is stronger.
Eight years ago, Celeste promised no more men in her life. It was painful when Ray left town, then she later married, only to have the marriage fall apart. All she needs is her daughter, Mia, but that was before Ray returned. Ray never knew coming back home would open past ghosts. After he left Aubrey’s Landing, he changed his life and ended up a self-made millionaire. While home he visits friends and his brother. His good friend, Gus, is not doing so well and asks Ray to watch over his boat shop for him. Perhaps enjoy a little vacation and strike up with an old flame again. Ray is not too sure about striking up any romantic interest with Celeste. Her father never liked him before; he doubts if he or Celeste will accept him with open arms now. He wishes to show her he indeed has changed and wants her and Mia in his life forever. Celeste still holds feelings for Ray. She never told him about Mia and now, Ray is spending as much time with them as possible. Celeste needs to know the real reason he left the first time, and the reason he has returned. As their once romance begins to slowly build a fire again, their hearts find it hard to not give in to their growing passion.
Tortillas and Second Chances is a page-turner. I read it in one sitting, not wishing to leave the characters. Celeste is not only a terrific mom but a wonderful person the way she reaches out and lends help to others. Even with all the ghosts weighing on Ray’s mind, he wishes for one more chance with the one person he left years ago. He is the kind of guy that everyone wants to live next door because he has such an easy going personality. I love the way his return made him stronger. Sylvia Renfro composes a consistent flowing read that allows the reader to feel the stirring emotions of the characters. This sensational book has all the right elements that bring together family, friends, miscommunication, and an extraordinary love through the years that is definitely meant to be.
