TO HIS MISTRESS
ANN TRACY MARR
Rating: 4 Cups
Katherine Scolville finds herself in the most unfortunate predicament; she is compromised and must marry Lord Shelton. She has no conception of deception, while he believes that she has trapped him into marriage. Katherine wants a harmonious union.
Lord Shelton wants to make Katherine his mistress. From the time he wakes to find Katherine in his room and himself forced to marry her, his plan has been to divorce the conniving wench. He soon finds that although she is not suitable as his bride, she would be perfect as his mistress.
Katherine and Lord Shelton are caught in the feuding battle of two mages determined to prove themselves the better mage. The wager is based on whether Katherine and Lord Shelton are capable of seeing past their differences and find true love together. The winner seems to be apparent until true love starts to intervene.
This book is absolutely a roller coaster ride of emotions. The hero of this story is very hard to like and I found myself angry with him through much of the story. I sympathized with Katherine and wanted to go to war for her myself. Ms. Marr has an amazing talent of invoking strong emotions with her words. I enjoyed how the author based her story on the love of Katherine and Lord Shelton, but the battle between the mages played a key role in the story. The book is a profound testament to how even magic cannot change the course of true love.
