Zak Lively is having a really, really bad day, to put it mildly. Losing his job, his girl friend, and his sanity…yeah, that pretty much says it all. Then to really top it off, he is supposed to save the world.
Yolinda Waverly has finally had enough. Zak is a flake, her mother has been telling her this for years, but Yolly just had to learn her lesson the hard way.
How in the world did he go from being gainfully employed…okay, so the job stunk, but hey, it was still a job, to seeing ghosts, and being chased by demons, all in one day? Zak is so confused his head hurts. He just wants his old life back, but his ghostly schoolmate has other plans. He expects Zak and Yolly to save the world from the crazy she-devil Sophie Malkovitch and her demonic minions. Yes, Zak…the same man whose greatest concern is having enough money to buy a pint or two after work, is now supposed to stop the resurrection of The Dark Lord. Maybe if he whines a little harder, they will pass the job on to someone else. He can only hope.
This story is honestly one of the strangest I have ever read. It is undeniably funny; Mr. Sheppard will have you laughing out loud (caution…do not be eating cereal while reading, it is really bad for the computer keyboard.) The characters are a trip, especially Zak; how can you not love the poor bumbling fool? The storyline, however, felt completely random, leaving me scratching my head, and thinking where is this going? I was entertained, and a little confused, but I will look forward to reading more from Mark Sheppard.
