Katya has lived her whole life in a small village overlooking a dreaded compound. For generations, Guardians who live in the compound have come to take maidens away to become sexual slaves to the warriors that live and are trained in the compound. Katya never thought it would happen to her, but when it does, something unexpected happens.
Turan has known nothing but living in a small cell and fighting. Taken from his parents when very small, he has been told his whole life how to live and what to do. When the Guardians bring Katya to him, he does not even know what to do with her, having never been with a woman before.
Katya expects to be raped as soon as she is given to her warrior, but instead discovers a gentle giant whom she comes to adore in very short order. However, the Guardians are ever watchful. Katya quickly makes an enemy of one of them when he attempts to rape her. As she works on the other women being held in the compound, Turan tries to speak to other warriors, trying to mount an insurrection. Will they be able to convince enough people to fight back, or will the Guardians separate them forever?
The Guardian’s Gift is a well thought out social commentary, as well as being a love story. I loved Katya’s determination to win no matter what the odds. Turan as the gentle, but fierce warrior was a delight to read about. The sex is hot, fierce, and utterly tender from the very first scene, making this book one to savor slowly. Both the primary and secondary characters have well developed personalities. Ms. Dee gets my vote for a book that is not only a great fantasy, but a superb love story!
