Susanna has lost the two most important people in her life, her husband and son. All she does anymore is work and hang out with her friend, Jessica, until she meets the one person who can offer her more.
Declan Fontaine is a vampire. For years, he has depended on Frank, his business partner, an older and wiser vampire, to offer him guidance and advice. He feels he owes Frank in many ways, until he meets Susanna.
Susanna is surprised to receive a tarot card in the mail with the word, shadow. It is a mystery just like her neighbor. She tries to tell herself she is not sexually attracted to the man, knowing it is a lie. After meeting him at a club, she lets her guard down. Declan gets the impression she has experienced loss. He hates drinking alone, since it allows him to regret his actions afterwards. He wants Susanna, but fears he needs Franks help. Declan take matters into his own hands but will Susanna want him after learning his dark secrets?
Karen Erickson pens tales that hypnotize. Just when everything seems to be going well, she throws a twist into the situation making the reader wonder will the couple ever find happiness. I could almost feel Susanna’s and Declan’s plights. She paints Susanna believable in her emotions, especially with losing loved ones then feeling no one will ever live in her heart again. The Vampire Oracle: Shadow is a spellbinding read that kept this reader glued to the seat. By making Susanna, and Declan, two solitary characters, needing the inner strength from each other, Ms. Erickson composes a tale that carried me down a smooth pathway with its gentle flowing read. The way she described Declan’s voice was absolutely captivating in this blazing story.
