THE UNSUITABLE SUITOR
LAURA E. REAGAN
Rating: 4 Cups
Peyton Hamilton is taken by her aunt and uncle to the estate of Lady Elizabeth Shelby to be a chaperone for her younger sister, Frieda; at least that is what she has been told.
Rupert Granville considers his Aunt Elizabeth’s estate, at Wellbourne, the most magical place on earth. Now that she has opened the doors as a courting palace, he is enchanted with the idea, and meeting Peyton is a delight.
Peyton and Frieda are sent to Wellbourne to find Frieda a suitable husband. Frieda already loves someone back home and knows her uncle will never allow her to wed Reginald Farnsworth, considering him no longer worthy. Peyton wishes Frieda and Reginald to marry so she can live with them. When Peyton decides to go off the course and do some searching of the estate, Freida informs her if she misbehaves they will be kicked out. Rupert and Reginald grew up as chums but severed a bit when Reginald’s family had some misfortune. Reginald begs for Rupert’s help in snaring an invitation to the estate so he can hook up with Frieda. After Peyton decides to take a detour into a secret tunnel, she happens to run into Rupert who has a way of capturing her heart and turning the tables.
The Unsuitable Suitor weaves a wonderful web with a colorful cast that keeps the story flowing consistently. I enjoyed the camaraderie between Peyton and Frieda. They were close in their sisterly relationship and made the story quite fascinating. Along with Rupert and Reginald, they are refreshing characters that lend some uplifting moments. I loved how Ms. Regan developed the plot, even allowing the reader to feel the need of the sisters to find the match they desired to marry. She creates a worth-while elegant read.
