Ariel is a new resident in a psychiatric boarding home. She has a mental illness and is seriously confused. She also is a pathological liar, drug addict, and an alcoholic. Ariel meets Don, and sees in him all the things she has missed with her ex-fiancé Stan.

Don also lives at the psychiatric boarding home. He’s been living there about 5 years. He seems pretty stable for the most part when he meets Ariel. Don has friends at the home, and a part time job. He is good with his money, especially since he does not seem to have a lot of it. When he sees Ariel for the first time he falls instantly in love.

Together Ariel and Don are a bad mix. Neither is emotionally or mentally stable enough for the kind of relationship they are trying to have with each other. The more Don falls for Ariel the more she sucks him down into an unstable world full of bad emotions, and mishandled feelings. The doctors and nurses around them try and council them both on taking things slow, and not getting to wrapped up in each other. But poor Don can not seem to help himself. Ariel’s wild mood swings drag him down until his own illness becomes more then he can handle.

This story is very well written, and it really pulls you into how a mentally unstable person thinks. You find yourself inside Don’s head, and it is a bit of a scary place to be, sometimes he is stable and sometimes he is not. The story flows well, and you follow easily along with Don as he slides further and further into his own illness. I was a little glad when the story ended as I felt totally out of my element. I have a new view on the insights of a person with a mental illness.
