As a young sorceress, Syra ap Syrren has been taught the magical ways of her people by her powerful Grandmother. Her talents are called into service to stop a wicked warlord from destroying her father’s kingdom and those of their allies. As a woman, Syra has thoughts for only one man. A man whose mere presence in her family home makes her heart beat irregularly and sends her thoughts racing along rather indecent lines.

Rhys Sorren is an imposing warrior by any standards. Tall, muscular, passionate and virile he has an air of danger and purpose about him. His mission in life is to protect his home and people from the person who almost destroyed them before. Rhys knows he and Syra are destined but being with him will endanger her life. So he’s waited to claim her as his own until circumstance intervene.

In a battle that will raise the past and could alter the future irreparably, Rhys and Syra fight side by side. As danger lurks at their borders and betrayal festers within their inner circle, the lovers must join their magic to protect all they hold dear. But will their true-bond be strong enough to hold them together when the wielder of dark magic is determined to tear their world apart?

Ms. Michaels brings to life a fantastic world in The Sword and the Sorceress. The passion between Rhys and Syra are varied and hot. The other players are amusing and interesting. What I did find distracting was so many of the characters names are similar and at times I had to page back to see who was who. This first book tells a good tale and in addition it sets us up for a few more potentially fun adventures with its host of lively secondary characters.
