Fionna Hawkes has a few secrets. One of which is that her mother is in an asylum. Fionna owns a book store and does well. But her other secret is that she is the mysterious author F. J. Sparrow. She must keep her identity a secret but fears after she meets Aidan McBride her secret will be revealed.
Aidan McBride has only been home three months after being in India. He is still battling his demons when he meets Fionna one evening. He recalls the words his brother said about he needed a woman to help him heal and amazingly, Fionna exactly fits the bill for what he needs.
Fionna raises her defenses immediately on meeting Aidan. Though even in the dark of night he takes her breath away. When Aidan begins pursuing Fionna he soon realizes that she is hiding something from him and he is determined to uncover the truth. But when she begins getting scared of every shadow and thing start mysteriously appearing around the bookstore, he feels she is in danger. Will she allow him to protect her or will she push him even further away?
Samantha James is brilliant. I was so entranced by the characters in this story that I could swear they were real. Ms. James keeps the reader guessing who the mysterious man is watching Fionna. She superbly portrays the feeling of hopelessness one deals with when they have an ill family member. Aidan comes across as a take charge man and leaves the reader gasping and perhaps smiling at his antics in pursuing Fionna. This is a very well rounded story and the ending is simply wonderful.
