Rose Marie Castle has not always been successful, especially in relationships. Her mother is mentally ill, her father in prison for the murder of the bad cop father of the father of her child, her daughter is out of control, and now her ex fiancé has been murdered and she is the prime suspect. It does not help that the detective in charge is none other than her ex-boyfriend and father of her child. Of course, neither her daughter, Carmen nor Mike knows about the relationship.
No one has ever made Mike Nash feel the way Rose Marie does. He still does not understand why she left him so many years ago, but the chemistry between them is just as hot as ever, and contributed to the break up of his marriage. She is many things, but not a murderer; he cannot arrest her for a crime she did not commit.
Dr. Pierce Carver is very popular with his patients, but not with the women in his life. When he is brutally murdered, naturally it is assumed that one of his exes did it, especially since the most vocal of them is seen running from his house the night of the murder.
This is a fast moving and often funny novel of murder and mayhem. Rose Marie seems to be a self-centered woman, but as the book goes on it is clear that she is very supportive of her family in her own way. She cares for her granddaughter, since her selfish daughter wants no responsibility, and she also cares for her mother who is a really unlikable character. Rose Marie’s quest for security leads her into all of her problems, from her marriage to all of her actions in this story. Mike is a very sympathetic character caught in the whirlwind that is Rosie, and Yolie is for the most part a very good friend. The mystery is not easy to solve, making for an enjoyable read.
