Heiress Lady Kate Fitzlynn likes to have fun and enjoy life. The problem is that fun can be scandalous to the ton. Kate lives with her aunt and uncle and jeopardizes their good name with her latest stunt. Something must be done before she permanently ruins her chances to make a good match.
Alistair Lavenham, known to friends as Ally, is an old family friend who decides to lend a hand by taking a personal interest in Kate. He will make sure that she does nothing further to embarrass herself or her family.
Kate does not like Ally hanging around and does her best to chase him away. Ally is quite the persistent man and does not give Kate an inch. One of Kate’s best friends has been ostracized in society for her flagrant behavior and this will be Kate’s downfall. A suitor with an obsession will use Kate’s trust in her friend to his own advantage. When Ally finds Kate in real danger, will he realize how much he cares for her?
The Reluctant Petruchio is a classy regency novel. It is extremely well written and the characters are top notch. Regency romances can sometimes become stale, but not this one. The story is interesting as well as comical at times. Kate and her protector Ally are great characters who experience a love-hate relationship, and Kate’s antics are humorous. The romance is sweet but limited in this light, enjoyable story.
