Susan Marks is a woman drowning in grief. The disappearance of her pilot boyfriend and the subsequent presumption of his death has all but consumed her. Unable to stay in their apartment, she decides to spend some time at her late Aunt’s house in Freedman‘s Cove.

Dan Freedman is a self made man, having left the tiny coastal town he grew up in to become a renowned painter, he has returned to his roots. As a kind of honorary historian/museum curator for the Maidenstone Lighthouse, he spends much of his time restoring the light keeper's home.

Susan and Dan have an unexpected meeting which leads to unexpected feelings. But there is a mystery in Freedman’s Cove Susan feels compelled to unravel. As she and Dan explore the tragic history of the Maidenstone Lighthouse, another danger draws close from an unexpected source.

This book has a little of everything. A ghost story, suspense, mystery, romance all in a beautiful setting. Being a Rhode Island native myself, I especially enjoyed Ms. Smith O’Rourke’s descriptions of a coastal vacation town. I spent more than my fair share of afternoons exploring such places and it made me a touch home sick. The many plot twists and surprises this book holds are delightful and kept me turning pages the whole way to the end. A truly fun read!
