Karen Walker is going on a cross-country trip, just as she promised her husband five years earlier. Her children are worried, but she is taking Jason along too, in his funeral urn.
Ben Carrey is drifting along towards a new job at the Grand Canyon. When Karen picks him up, he is without transportation or money. He thinks that she is just about the most beautiful thing he has seen in his whole life, but what would an angel like her want with a mess like him?
A woman sets out on a life-changing journey with the ashes of her late husband. She and the man she meets along the way share the trip of a lifetime that will hopefully be the start of the rest of their lives.
This is a well-written story, though the concept is a bit far fetched. A conservative Christian woman does not pick up strangers on the side of the road in a strange state and take them on vacation with them. I liked Karen and the way she deals with her overbearing daughters. Ben’s character is a lot harder to like. On the surface, he is good looking and pleasant, but when you dig deeper he is a depressive con man with a gambling addiction. Quite a catch. The scenery descriptions along the route of the trip are very vivid and Jason and his urn have quite a trip.
