Rating: 4 cups
Adela MacAye is a witch. She has forseen her death and knows from experience that what she sees in her visions always comes true.
Laird Phillip Roberts is feuding with Clan Campbell. He will do anything to restore peace to the lands, even marry the bloodthirsty woman who is the backbone of the feud.
Adela terrified about the vision she has been having where she dies, decides that she must have a baby so that her gifts will be passed on. Her magical horse leads her to Phillip. However, Adela does not become pregnant. Months go by and Phillip on a suggestion sends his men to find “the witch” so he can have her cast a love spell on his enemy. Instead they find Adela, and Phillip discovers she is also the witch. Phillip is torn between his love for Adela, and his need to bring peace to his lands. Even though it causes her heartbreak, Adela makes the love potion for Phillip. However, his plan backfires for the woman whose heart he seeks is evil and she will do anything to destroy all he holds dear.
The Last Celtic Witch is a story rich in history, and imagination. I could literally feel what it must have been like to live in times when being different could cost you your life. The villain of this piece is so well drawn that you catch your breath in terror of what she is going to do next. Adela as the woman alone who is desperate to find love and in so doing continue her family line is exceptional. Phillip is honorable, but he is not perfect, and I liked how Ms. Armstrong gave him suitable flaws. The Last Celtic Witch is a keeper and not one you will want to miss!
