Paramedic Brain Gardner has officially moved out on his own. He has a new job and his own apartment and he is ready to begin his new life as an adult. However, moving is very hard work and Brian is feeling extremely drained and he is starving. He needs to feed as soon as possible, unfortunately for Brian his feeding keeps being postponed by events beyond his control.
Joe is a cop who has just celebrated fifteen years on the force. He has seen lots of terrible things during his career. When Brian comes in claiming to have witnessed a murder he immediately recognizes who is behind it. Joe knows that he must protect Brian from the Red Diamonds at any cost.
Brian is horrified when he realizes he is being forced to go into protective custody when he has not had a chance to feed. Desperate Brian turns to Joe for help, and although Joe does not know why Brian wants to sleep with him straight or not he finds that cannot turn Brian away. Both men are surprised by the connection they feel. However, their lives could be in a lot more danger than either of them realizes.
The premise of this book was very interesting. Initially, I had some trouble getting into the story. I think if I had read the first book in the series I would have had an easier time but I am definitely glad I stuck with it. The plot is intriguing and I found myself drawn into the action. Brian and Joe are hot and a lot of fun to get to know. There relationship was my favorite part of the story. It is very satisfying to see two men who feel like outcasts; realize that they do have a place to belong.
