Four siblings are sent away from their home by their parents for their own protection. Ash, Bran, Ky and Jay leave their parents to begin a journey that will change their lives forever and lead them into a danger unlike any they have faced before. Along the way to Cedris, they meet their cousin who is also a halfling, who tries to help them.

Dom Senet is the most powerful Dom in years and vows to find the children and use them and their powers to help him gain control of both the high and the low lands. He also suspects that the children's cousin, Alizand, has an affinity but cannot get him to prove his power. When the children slip through his fingers with the help of Alizand and his bodyguard, he has no course of action to take other than to train Alizand in the use of his power and use him for evil.

Two sets of twins, Ash and Bran, Jay and Ky, leave the Henge where they grew up and had a happy childhood only to see it destroyed by Dom Senet's evil power. When they learn their uncle and Alizand's father stood beside the Dom as he destroyed their home and killed their parents, they know they must hide in Cedris and do as their parents told them and wait for their teachers. They soon learn their teachers have been killed by Dom Senet's friends and know they must leave. But will leaving the protection of the secret garden in Cedris be the right thing to do and will Alizand, their cousin and friend be put in harms way?

This is an excellent story. The imagination of Ms. Walter's comes through nicely. Her characters face many dangers and at times, she leaves the reader questioning if they will survive. At first the story was a bit slow but it picked up towards the middle. The ending is one of the best cliffhangers I have read in quite a while and I applaud Ms. Walter's for leaving the reader holding their breath for the next installment.
