Morgan Kingsley is an exorcist with the king of the demons living inside her. She has unresolved issues with her family and her demon. She has had to push away the man she loves for his own good.

Lugh was the King of the Demons, but is in hiding in Morgan. His brother has a very different agenda from his and no regard for the humans demons use as hosts. His other brother is supposedly on his side, but Raphael’s motives are always suspect.

Morgan’s brother is finally free from his demon, and she is determined to keep him that way. A sociopathic demon slayer, Der Jaeger, is hunting for Lugh and Morgan. The secrets surrounding both Morgan’s birth and her stay at the Healing Circle, come back to bite her. As usual, the balance between good and evil seems to rest on her shoulders.

I found this book a bit confusing in the first couple of chapters but then got totally absorbed in the story. Ms Black has created a believable world with unbelievable circumstances. Morgan is a very strong character who has been rejected by her family for as long as she can remember. She is highly resistant to possession and the royal demon who manages to invade her cannot control her except in sleep. The other characters are colorful and sometimes it is hard to tell who is good and who is not. Her parents are particularly unlikable and very manipulative of her approval-seeking older brother. I particularly liked Adam, though I did not want to. His partner Dominic is easy to like as is the ex-boyfriend. The plot is a rollercoaster ride of action and suspense with a particularly explosive climax.
