Louise Ashford was born and raised in the wilds of Australia, and wanted nothing more then to stay there for the rest of her life. But her parents have other ideas for her. They wish her to move to England find a nice nobleman and marry. So Louise changes her name to Lucy Forest and begins her journey into a new life.

Lloyd Kavanagh some how finds himself saddled with Lucy Forest on a trek across the bush to get his cattle home and her to her new position as governess for a well to do family in Banana. But on the week long journey to Banana, Lloyd and Louise find a budding friendship that might turn out to be more.

Once Settled in Banana, Louise discovers that she cannot stay with the family that originally hired her, so Lloyd helps her secure a position with his neighbors. Once there, Louise and Lloyd see a lot more of each other and there friendship turns quickly to something a lot more. Before they know it they are in love and wanting to marry. But Louise’s brother tracks her down and drags her off to England, where she discovers she is pregnant with Lloyd’s baby.

I was really set on giving this book a 3 cup rating, but the whole last 100 pages or so of this book changed my mind. The problems and sadness that Louise had to go through really tore at my heart strings. Miss Garside really makes me think she understands the reality of unwed mother's struggles during that time period. She also made me feel like I was really in Australia. This book really got to me in the end and I fell in love with the character of Louise, and I was so happy when Lloyd and Louise ended up together.
