THE COMPLETENESS OF CELIA FLYNN
Loose Id, LLC
Rating: 4 Cups
Celia Flynn listened to her mother’s promptings about sin and opinions about the three men she grew up with, rather than following her heart. This decision led to her rejecting the three suitors, and instead becoming engaged to another man. When her fiancé is killed in WWI, she realizes how wrong she was and how much she wants her three lads back safe in her arms. She lives with her mother who runs a sort of halfway house for wounded soldiers.
Robert, Patrick and Freddie are the three young men that Celia left behind. Like all the young men in Celia’s village, they went off to fight the war. It is only the thought of seeing her again that has kept them alive.
When Robert returns with an injured hip and walking with a cane, it is all Celia can do to contain her worry that he will not forgive her. Then Patrick returns but is blind, and Freddie is shell-shocked. What will she do if they do not forgive her? Can the quartet’s love be renewed, or will Celia be alone and unhappy?
The Completeness of Celia Flynn is one of those books that proves that love is love no matter if it is between two people or, as in this case, four. The facts interjected throughout the book of Ireland during the WWI era are striking and very realistic. The emotions are relayed in such a way that the reader feels them right along with the main characters. I savored reading about the distinctive personalities of each of the men, and the little things Celia loved about each one of them as well. Refreshing, engaging and highly sensual, Ms. Guillone has written another winner. An original story that deserves multiple reading sessions!
