Jade has been a widow for four years. Her husband was a U.S. Marshall killed in the line of duty. She finally feels that she is ready for a new relationship and asks her mother and sister to look out for prospects. She has never considered her best friend.

David is Jade’s best friend and was her husband’s. He has been in love with her since he met her but her marriage and mourning period have prevented him from acting on his feelings. Now she is ready and he is determined to make her his.

All Jade wants is a nice safe relationship and children with a man who will not get himself killed. David is handsome, sexy and exciting, but he was her husband’s best friend as well as her own and she does not want to lose that. Their relationship changes abruptly when a killer targets her.

The author is very good at building suspense. The first part of the story does not connect very well with the body of the tale at first, but by the end everything comes together. David and Jade have a powerful attraction for each other, enhanced by the fact that they love each other as much as they are in love with each other. Their characters are well developed and I liked Jade and her down-to-earth attitude. The villains out to get her were very scary and the author really made me feel her confusion as to what they wanted and why. The other characters were very real and emphasized what a close family Jade belongs to. David fits right in and is determined to make Jade and her family a permanent part of his life. Both the love and action scenes are equally exciting and I will definitely look for more of this author’s work.
