THE BECKMEYER WOLVES BOOK ONE: GOING WITH THE FLOW

Contessa is a television movie critic with dreams of becoming an anchorwoman. Management considers her too abrasive for the position due to her “too mean” reviews.
Michael is a werewolf. When his family was murdered by a gang, only he and his brother escaped. Their camp is a refuge for people and werewolves who have nowhere else to go.
Contessa has been passed over for her dream job for another girl with no experience. Furious, she decides to drown her sorrows at the nearest bar. Fate comes along in the form of Michael, who drives the drunken movie reviewer home. Their night of passion has unseen consequences. Michael is a werewolf, and the hickey he gives her means that Contessa will be a werewolf too come the next full moon. Being part of Michael’s life is dangerous right now; a gang is looking for a woman who has taken shelter with the member of Michael’s camp.
This is a well-written werewolf story. Contessa is an alpha-type character who will fit in nicely in any werewolf pack. Michael is a sexy and mysterious wolf, but I had a problem with his withholding information from Contessa. Right up until the full moon, she really has no idea what is going to happen to her, or what is going on in Michael’s life. It is almost as if he wants to put her in a safe little box while he goes about his life as usual. This is not a problem, because Contessa is more than smart–and yes, mean enough–to hold her own in a werewolf pack. I love her diversionary tactics in the climactic scene. The excitement there is one of the highlights of the story, along with some truly steamy love scenes.
