Colleen Macgregor didn’t think of herself as a beauty. She was left alone early on in life. Her father died when she was just a girl, and mother and sister followed not to many years later. The only thing Colleen had was her little cottage located outside a small town in York.
Sebastian Ware was the second son of a second son. His life was meant to be easy. No one was counting on him for anything. He was only the cousin to an Earl. After the disaster of his first marriage he swore never to fall in love or marry again.
But everything changed for both of them one fateful day during a blizzard. Colleen found Sebastian face down in the snow passed out cold from a head wound. Just her luck on the day Sebastian looked like he had made a full recovery his presence was discovered in her home by the town vicar. The two were forced to marry for the sake of Colleen’s reputation. Sebastian discovers his uncle the Earl had died leaving him the title. Once in London Sebastian learns that someone is trying to kill off the Earls of Penwyth.
I gave this book 4 cups because it was an amusing romp though what happens when two people bent on being alone are forced through circumstance to be together. The character of Colleen is on the surface a strong willed woman, but underneath that she is riddled with self doubt. Sebastian is what every woman wants. On the surface he acts like the wounded widower, but on the inside he is still a strong male looking for his soul mate. It was an amusing tale of two people and how they muddled through figuring out that what they really wanted was each other. I loved this book, and had a great time reading it.
