As a single twenty-nine year old college art history professor, Whitney finds more inspiration in a museum than any man she has ever met. Whitney comes to Cape Cod for a six week summer vacation to help out her older sister, Caroline, who has been battling some emotional distress. Intent on spending her days chasing her niece and nephew on the beach and spending some quality girl time with her sister, she also harbors an interest in indulging in a safe little summer fling if the opportunity presents itself.
Liam works as a counselor at the kid's summer camp. Whitney notices the luscious looking younger man and they feel an immediate, powerful attraction to each other. She tries to fight it, but quickly gives in. At twenty-five, he is not THAT much younger, she reasons. After a few very hot encounters Whitney's thoughts cannot help but turn to Liam regularly. Although not the prime husband material her sister is attempting to throw in her path, Liam makes her feel beautiful and incredibly desired.
At a high society gathering Whitney and Caroline run into Liam's mother, who innocently drops the bomb that her son is actually 19 and a college sophomore. Whitney is sent into a tail spin of self-doubt and self-deprecation as she cannot get the younger man out of her mind. She turns to Trevor, a handsome mid-thirties successful and single neighbor, to try and banish her sinful thoughts and turn them to a more age-appropriate direction. But Whitney's attraction to Liam is strong; the chemistry electric. She must resist, or become a social pariah with her sister's high class crowd.
What a delicious and dangerously seductive tale this is. Ms Wilde has captured the allure and social stigma of an older woman/younger man relationship and spun it into a delightful little tale of lust and longing. One sees that age can really depend on a person's state of mind, rather than a date on a calendar; that happiness can depend on taking risks and reaping rewards. At first I was wary, but this one really grew on me. Kudos to Ms. Wilde for delivering a delightfully different love story that pulls the heart strings and made this reader smile.
