Mona Grainger is trying desperately to hold onto her family’s ranch. She is pregnant and hiding it from the father, her mortgage is coming due, and cattle rustlers are decimating her herd.
Reed Bryson needs a job to stay in Briscoe County where his mother is recovering from a stroke. Since he quit the Briscoe County Sheriff’s Office jobs are not easy to come by. This one seems tailor made for him; he grew up ranching and is handy with a gun.
Someone is trying to ruin Mona Grainger. Since her father’s death she has been running Rancho Linda, but between the oil speculators, cattle rustlers, the bank, and her disgruntled Uncle Arty, she might not be able to hold on much longer. She also has her unborn child to worry about. Reed Bryce seems like the answer to all of her problems.
This book is very entertaining and a quick read. The characters are well drawn and pretty black and white as far as good guys and bad guys. Everyone in this town seems to have a secret and they all come out at the end. There is a lot of action and a little romance in the plot, which reminds me a little of a soap opera, predictable but fun while it lasts.
