Jaclyn Macgregor is on the run looking for her best friend who has disappeared. She has left behind her home in Louisiana and driven down to Colts Run Cross, Texas because someone called her saying they had answers about her friend Margo Kite’s disappearance. She does not count on meeting Bart Collingsworth, a cowboy with a heart.

Bart Collingsworth works on his family’s ranch, and is quite happy being single. He nearly took the plunge a couple of times but thankfully caught himself just in time, at least that is the way he sees it. Not one to be easily taken in by a pretty face, Bart finds himself drawn to Jaclyn.

When someone tries to kill Jaclyn by running her off the road, fortunately Bart is there to see the whole thing. He stops, helps Jaclyn out of her overturned vehicle and calls both the Sheriff and an ambulance. However, Jaclyn claims she is okay, and that she does not want an ambulance. Bart suspects something is fuzzy right from the start especially when it is obvious that Jaclyn is lying about things. This becomes even more apparent when he visits her in the hospital and she claims to have amnesia. Over time, Bart mostly convinces Jaclyn to allow both himself and his family to help her. However, someone is very unhappy that Jaclyn and the Collingsworth's are asking so many questions and they will do anything to stop them, up to and including murder. Will Bart be able to protect the woman he has come to love or will someone destroy their happily-ever-after?

Texas Gunsmoke is a real page turner! It kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page and I read it in one sitting. Ms. Wayne has a way of describing hot cowboys and their personalities that kept this reader enthralled with each page. Jaclyn has clearly had some very tough times, and the author does an excellent job of showing that, and Jaclyn’s feelings. I loved the fact that Bart and his family stood next to Jaclyn even when they were not completely sure if she was on the up and up. That they were willing to give her a chance anyway was endearing. Texas Gunsmoke is one book that you will not want to miss!
