Julian Southwood, Earl of Erith, left England sixteen years ago to join the diplomatic service. He insists upon purchasing the best of everything: tailoring, horses, even women. The moment he gazes at Olivia, he is sure the challenge will be profitable.
Olivia Raines is London’s most notorious courtesan. When she sets her sights on Julian, all she sees is another spoiled scion of nobility. He is like any other man for her taking. After she uses him to her advantage, she will simply abandon him, not wishing to lose any challenge.
Olivia has a set pattern she uses with every man she draws in her web. After she finishes with them, she casts them aside. When she agrees upon being with a blackguard like Julian, she has serious doubts, but there is something about the man that intrigues her beyond measure. Rumors spread that he treats women like trophies. Not one for remarrying again, he is nothing but a rake that sets up popular courtesans and uses them as his mistress. After Julian has finished with any woman, he discards her. For a man who has experienced much in life, he feels nothing for anyone, yet he wishes to protect Olivia while making her his mistress. As Julian and Olivia enter into a contract of sorts, the two soon learn the games they are about to play tear at their hearts -- beckoning much more.
Tempt the Devil is a well-crafted tale that this reader enjoyed. I love the interaction between Olivia and Julian. Their little mind games, as well as other adventures they plan for the other, is quite delicious. Their antics keep the storyline flowing smoothly. With an interesting plot and well-developed characters that allow the audience to share in the emotions and expressions, Anna Campbell delivers a clever story. She instills desires that sweep through the pages with this delightful couple as they work through their differences. A stirring romance, between two vibrant people, with an intensity that truly captures the reader, and holds until the last page in this sizzling read.
