Sabrina Tate is a married woman with a young child. She is the thirteenth daughter of the Devour clan, and psychic to some extent. No one but her daughter believes that something evil is in the house and after them.
Rambling Rose is the original name of the Tate house. She was built by Amelia Devour, the first of the Devours. Amelia needs Sabrina’s help to save her namesake.
Ghosts, demons, long lost sisters and lovers, and philandering husbands all are part of this story. Sabrina’s daughter has been taken by the house, formerly known as Rambling Rose. She has repeatedly warned her husband of its dangers, but he refused to believe her. Matters come to a head when her long lost twin sister arrives and seduces Richard. A former lover arrives soon after to help her, hopefully in time to save Amelia Rose, her daughter.
This is a story full of suspense, danger, betrayal, and great paranormal elements, but was a bit hard to get a handle on at first. I felt like a stranger invited to a party where everyone else knew each other, so it would be very helpful to the reader to read the two previous books first. The characters are well drawn and interesting and the setting is one of the main characters of the story, but the convoluted relationships between the characters can be a bit hard to decipher. The author really knows how to create an ominous atmosphere and relate tension between characters, which made me read this one through to the exciting conclusion. This is one creepy and engrossing tale and it gave me chills.
