Theresa MacLean is a forensic scientist who knows all about rigor mortis since working with the examiner’s office. After she is called upon about a murdered body, she soon learns it is just the beginning of a horrifying day headed her way.

Paul Cleary is a homicide detective and Theresa’s fiancé. After he and Theresa arrive at the scene of a murdered bank loan examiner, Paul goes to the reserve bank to speak to some of his co-workers, only to arrive with a robbery in progress.

Theresa and Paul are mystified at a victim killed on his front yard. They identity the fatality as Mark Ludlow, a bank examiner who approved loans, and after killing him, the murderer took his wallet. The day worsens when Paul goes to the Federal Reserve Bank to question some of the co-workers, only to arrive during a robbery. Theresa is shocked to learn that Paul is one of six being held hostage at the downtown bank. To her surprise, they have phoned in Chris Cavanaugh as negotiator. Even though Chris has been lucky in rescuing victims in the past, she wonders if his overconfidence might lose this case. As the day progresses and tragedy takes a turn, Theresa finds it the worst disaster ever.

From the moment the bank is seized and the hostages are at their mercy, the reader is pulled into the agonizing circumstances in Takeover. I could share in not only the intensity the hostages felt, but those trying to stop the mayhem. The robust characters are numerous in this intriguing read. The story is engaging and the motivating plot keeps flowing at a great pace to find complete enjoyment in this read. The surprises surmount with every turn of the page. Excellent storytelling by Ms. Black made this reader hard to let go. I felt as if I was right in the center of the action, sharing in all the emotions and thrills right along with the others. I love the strong depiction of Theresa and her spirit in this intensifying novel.
