Betty Mueller was thinking she was doing the right thing when she managed to destroy her daughter Julie's crush on their neighbor, Michael. But that was long ago and now she realizes she has made a terrible mistake, one that she is determined to make right in hope of giving her daughter a new chance at happiness.
Julie, who is now in her forties, is a divorced mom of a teen. A workaholic as well, she is a television reporter in Boston. Her mother guilts her into attending a dessert class at a cooking school, and soon Julie finds out that Michael is a fellow student. She wonders if her mom is playing matchmaker. But why would she do that?
Trying to right her past mistake is not all that is happening in Betty's life. She has been having dizzy spells which are beginning to worry Julie. Julie is afraid that a misunderstanding may have jeopardized Michael's career, and she is sure he will never forgive her for it.
What a wonderful, tender story that tells of family bonds and levels of love that shape our relationships. Lifelike problems and likeable characters that the reader can relate to are intertwined and make the story flow from beginning to end. A great summer or anytime read.
