Creighton Jacqueline Brooks has inherited a share in a London detective agency, so she is off to London from America. She is bound and determined to play her part in this business. Only, when she gets there, things are not turning out as well as she hoped.

Stephen Haversham is her partner and a British solicitor. He enjoys the simple life he lives, a pint and a cigar every now and again, women who want no more from him than he does of them, a few good friends and a job he enjoys. Yet now, he has Ms. Brooks to deal with.

Stephen is annoyed at having a woman for a new partner, but at the same time, she has impressed him on more than one occasion and there’s also his attraction to her. But, working a case that started out as an investigation into who might want a client killed has now turned into who murdered her.

I enjoyed the whole cast of characters in this historical romance. They are colorful and entertaining. The storyline is intriguing with some little twists and turns which keep it flowing smoothly. If you are looking for a bit of history and mystery in your romance, then this is a good book to fill that craving.
