Katie McDonald was left the Avondale Puzzle Museum, along with a genius named, Harry, six months ago when her professor was murdered. She is preparing for the first annual P.T. Avondale Sudoku Challenge until a murder threatens a possible cancellation of the event.

Brandon Mitchell is Chief of Police of Granville who is busy with the upcoming event. He knows the function will be huge, but after a murder involving the Sudoku champion takes place, he believes the fair should shut down.

After Katie’s mentor, P.T. was killed, she was left with the dilapidated museum and Harry, a genius who feels going to school is like babysitting. Katie shares the same sentiments, since she, too, was an adolescent geek. She wants everything to run smoothly with the puzzle challenge but a murder causes a bit of chaos. Brandon wishes the event cancelled and for Katie not to interfere with the investigation. Harry is a huge help to Katie, but Brandon does not like when he skips classes, no matter how intelligent the boy is. When Aunt Pru gets nosy, they lie and tell her the man died of a heart attack. With a killer in town, will Brandon find the person before another murder occurs?

Sudden Death Sudoku is the second book in the series and just as entertaining as the first. The book continues with the warm and refreshing characters of Katie, Brandon, and the interfering Aunt Pru. I thought it was cute how Brandon would rather face her in his uniform, and where she was finally silenced. A wonderful ending that leaves a promise to the reader that there will perhaps be a relationship blossoming between Katie and Brandon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I love the way Shelley Freydont connects Brandon and Kate; they have a way of warming the heart while they give the audience a tennis match type of relationship during their investigating. Will they finally get together, will he win, she win, in a book with great intrigue and drama.
