SIXTEEN GOLD NUGGETS
Whiskey Creek Press
Rating: 3 Cups
Tessa, a beautiful young woman, runs a very popular restaurant in a small town in Nebraska. She and her adopted Aunt Sophie have overcome their pasts to become well-loved and respected members of their community. Lately, Tessa has been lonely and finds herself very attracted to Joe Gilmore, who has come to town to retrieve a portrait that his grandfather commissioned before he died.
Joe, a high school teacher, expects to complete his business quickly. He has to get the portrait and find sixteen gold nuggets that his grandfather hid in a remote cabin. However, although he falls in love with Tessa at first sight, events conspire to keep them apart.
A legacy of sixteen gold nuggets brings outlaws to a small town in Nebraska in the late 1800s. A teacher travels west to claim a legacy left to him by his grandfather. He meets the woman of his dreams, but is waylaid by outlaws determined to claim the nuggets. Hopefully someone will notice that he is missing before the criminals decide to do away with him.
This is a classic type of western tale. It has all of the required characters; warm townspeople, a beautiful woman with a past, a heroic young man from the city, dastardly villains, and best of all, a hidden treasure. Joe’s imprisonment dragged on a bit too long, but I loved the pack rat. Overall, this is an enjoyable tale worth reading.
