Sir Kendrick of Penwell is a Knight of the Prince. His call to follow the Prince came at a time in his life when despair and hatred had all but consumed him. Now he devotes himself to fight for all humanity, for one day the Prince will return and good will once again reign over evil.

Duncan of Trinalda is Sir Kendrick’s prodigy. He is a young warrior; courageous and brave, but also head strong and brash. Duncan learns very quickly that following in his mentor’s footsteps is a challenge that could take a life time.

Being a Knight of the Prince, Sir Kendrick is given the quest to find the blackest of hearts. He must locate and identify a Shadow Warrior; a man devoting his life to reeking havoc and chaos wherever he roams. He does this in the name of Lucien, the antithesis of all that is good and right in the world. Kendrick and Duncan begin their quest by joining a tournament where the warrior is participating. Their discovery soon leads them into the heart of evil, located just outside the town of Bel Lione. Lord Ra is a Shadow Warrior of Lucius’ and one of the most powerful and feared beings in all of Arrethtrae. He hosts festivals and parties at his castle to lure in the town’s young people. Once under his control they become fodder for his evil. Kendrick and Duncan set themselves on a course that is both deadly and unavoidable, if they want freedom to once again grace those of Bel Lione.

This is a wonderful representation of the Bible’s principles set in a classically medieval tone. The characters of Kendrick and Duncan are well thought out and developed to really endear the reader to their cause. They are righteous and true, but not over done. Mr. Black tells his story with an energy and passion that spills forth with each and every page. This is a real page turner, and one to excite and entertain any young reader.
