Rikki Johanson is a product of the foster care system and a foster mother herself. She believes in giving back and making the world a better place than the grim one she grew up in.
Dane Hendricks is a successful orthopedic surgeon and single father of twin four year old girls. He is overworked both at Mercy Hospital and at home and the stress is beginning to tell.
A young nurse attracts the attention of a handsome and successful surgeon, but their vastly different outlooks on life make a relationship difficult. A life threatening situation with Dane’s adoptive brother brings the two closer together, but the idealistic nurse and the cynical doctor have a lot to overcome.
This is a very well written and enjoyable romance. Rikki is a very caring individual, determined that the foster children in her care not be treated the way she was. She was taken from her mother when she was three and never saw her again and has no other family that she knows of. Dane’s wife left him when parenting became too tough and he is feeling the strain of two very demanding jobs. The author weaves a very believable and heartwarming love story between these two people. Rikki could be too good to be true, but the author makes her likable. I really liked Dane’s brother Don, who turns out to be Rikki’s fairy godfather with Dane as well as in finding her family. You will definitely root for him to beat his cancer. This is a fast reading romance with enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested and I enjoyed it.
