Claudia Martin is the owner and headmistress of Miss Martin’s School for Girls. She is taking two of her students to London for employment interviews. Claudia is an extremely strong and independent woman, so when a handsome marquess offers to escort her she refuses at first, but is eventually persuaded.
Joseph Fawcitt, the Marquess of Attingsborough, is facing pressure from his father to marry and produce an heir. He and his father decide that Portia Hunt is the best choice. That is, until a very prim and proper school headmistress inexplicably takes over his thoughts.
After Claudia takes care of business in London, she spends some time with friends who belong to the upper class. Soon finds herself conversing with Joseph, in addition he confides in her his greatest secret. Even thought the two become close Claudia knows that she could never be with a future duke. Besides she could never leave her school. When a scandal is revealed to the ton, the two must discover if it is possible to put aside their differences in background and be together.
Mary Balogh once again dazzles readers with her exceptional regency romance. Beautifully written, you cannot resist being drawn into the lives of these fascinating characters. I particularly love how the hero and heroine are strong, yet vulnerable. The story keeps the reader truly entertained from beginning to end. They are not perfect, but real and flawed. Captivating romance sprinkled with sweet sensuality makes for an enjoyably rewarding read. Simply “Perfect” is simply enchanting.
