Dori is a Zyan woman who lost her family at a young age. She is unexpectedly drawn outside at night for an unknown reason. She unwittingly calls to a Zyan man through a childhood song.
Merrick is a Zyan man who is wounded by clan, dishonorably. His only wish is to get someplace safe to heal so he can go back and extract his revenge. He is drawn to the song of a woman who knows little of her planet and it’s people.
When Merrick is captured by the same people who took Dori in at three he feels threatened by these untrusting people who only want only to heal him and get him away from Dori. Dori is drawn to the stranger, unaccustomed to these strange feelings cause her to question more about her people.
This is a very complex story. Dori has a lot on her plate and is rather obstinate. Merrick, after a bit, wants nothing but to keep her safe and keep her happy, although she seems to take that for granted sometimes. Shadow and Betrayal gives the reader a fast paced story with the right amount of plot. Merrick and Dori are the only ones that can decide their fate and future, whether they like it or not.
