Lady Kathleen MacDavid has been a widow for nine years. Her husband’s untimely death and the deaths of three of her suitors have finally convinced her that the infamous curse is not a figment of her aunt and grandmother’s imagination.
Oliver, Earl of Norcross is a secret romantic and the last of his group of friends to remain single. Though he would dearly love to be married, he wants to find his own wife, not be match made by his mother.
Five hundred years ago the Leightons and Armstrongs were supposed to be united by marriage to settle a dispute. That union never occurred, and the families were cursed by a woman affected by the bloodshed. If the two families are not united, dire consequences are threatened. Kathleen and Oliver are the last of the two families, and Kathleen’s relations are determined that the two should marry and will sacrifice anything including Kathleen’s health and safety to accomplish this.
This romance combined a great love story with a bit of humor. The two fairly level-headed main characters are cursed with an eccentric flock of relatives. In Kathleen’s case, her aunt is downright dangerous, pushing her off a train platform and causing a serious head injury. Her amnesia, while not very plausible, makes a fun plot point, especially when the three young cousins come to visit. The ancient curse adds a bit of interest to the plot and the characters are quirky and a lot of fun, particularly Lady Norcross, who is not as flighty as she appears, despite her romantic nature. This is a fun historical romance with interesting characters and a quirky plot that is sure to please.
