Dr. Emily Carlin is a psychologist specializing in the minds of tyrants. She has been sent to Ubasi to determine the fate of the man currently in charge there, but her mission has gone wrong almost from the beginning.

Jean Laroque is desperately trying to stabilize his country. A man with foreign backing is trying to overthrow his government and a prophesy about the woman in his palace predicts disaster.

War torn Ubasi is the focus of the secret organization FDS. Its rich oil fields make it a target for greed and its charismatic leader is the son of a notoriously vicious mercenary. It is up to FDS’s profiler to decide whether Jean Laroque lives or dies.

The action of this book takes place mostly in the capital and royal palace of Ubasi. The chemistry is immediate between Emily and Jean and the love scenes are scorchers despite their doubts about each other. Jean is a charismatic leader determined not to be like his father and Emily, raised by an overbearing father, is determined not to be like the mother who gave up and killed herself. The background of guerrilla attacks and possible revolution adds to the tense atmosphere of the story. The reader will tensely await the outcome and FDS’s decision on whether Jean should live or die.
