Roselyn Longworth finds herself among tainted women about to be sold to the highest bidder. She is nothing like the prostitutes who surround her. When a handsome bidder claims her for his prize, she wonders what he has in store for her.
Kyle Bradwell is from the pits of Durham. He went to France to study engineering and architecture. On occasion, he is a real estate agent and architect. His professional interest is in buildings and lands. Then he sees Roselyn, and finds her priceless.
Unfortunately, Roselyn’s family fall left her with nothing. She grows so tired of the old men that badger her and try to have a good time at her expense. Thanks to the kindness of Kyle, she is indebted to his generosity and would rather go home with him then anyone else bidding on her. Kyle was the type that never turned down any opportunity to mix with people of wealth and high station. Just one glimpse at Roselyn and Kyle admires her astonishing beauty and elegance. Roselyn does not know what favors Kyle will expect of her after paying such a high price. She is surprised he wishes no favors. She wonders if he will be her knight and perhaps offer her marriage. He arouses her in the worse way; making her wonder is he the lover she has always dreamed would come for her. With her family’s scandal, Roselyn is curious if she can find happiness with Kyle. Then he asked the question changing everything in their life.
Secrets of Surrender is a tantalizing read. The refreshing characters of Roselyn and Kyle are magnificently driven in what they desire in life. I found this story arousing and passionate, just as Kyle in his emotions when he was moved by Roselyn. Madeline Hunter’s style of writing touches this reader in the same way her characters are moved by certain events. She brings believable characters to life with richness and volume that grabs hold with each turn of the page. The way she depicts this historical and all the settings, makes everything vibrant, as a rose budding with all its beauty. I could feel the magic, the intrigue and the excitement in this recommended read.
