Eight years is a long time to be harboring a secret that could bring the world crashing down on Sabrina ‘Bree’ Hunter. Her son, Peter, does not know his father and vice versa; now everything is conspiring against her to finally reveal the truth.
Sheriff Patrick Martinez devotes his life to his job. He was in love once, but the thought of Bree being in constant danger as a police officer drove a huge wedge between them.
Bree knew that the day would come when she would have to coordinate with the sheriff’s department on a case, and she would be forced to face Patrick once again. She looks into those same blue eyes every day, but the force behind Patrick’s gaze shocks her to the core. As the case drags onward, they spend more and more time together, and it is getting harder to keep her secret. Patrick has never loved any other woman than Bree, but she is holding something back, and he is determined to set things right between them.
This really is a fantastic novel, with a well-built plot, and strong intelligent characters. Okay, here is the 'but'; I seriously do not like Bree’s character. She is selfish, self-centered, and antagonistic, and had it not been for circumstance, she would still be holding onto her secret. Now that I have that off my chest, I rated this a 4 Cupper because the story itself is so well written. The action scenes are riveting, and the suspense makes this a very hard book to put down.
