Hank Monroe has never forgotten his ex-wife, Bitsy, who never understood him. After signing up for a dating service, he is introduced to Arlene, who is just the opposite of Bitsy, and hot enough to melt his heart.
Arlene Evans enjoys participating in any baking division. Baking is something she loves. It lasts longer than most men. She already has her hands full with a grown son who needs to find a job, a daughter in a mental institution, and an eight month pregnant daughter.
Hank always considered dating a bit dangerous. Then, on a whim, he signs up and meets Arlene, who has a voice he could listen to always. Arlene enjoys the date with Hank. He is easy on the eyes, and fun to be around. Hank receives a message informing he is in trouble. There was a breech of security and now his life is in jeopardy. When Arlene’s pregnant daughter, Charlotte, does not come home after her doctor’s appointment, Arlene worries. Hank knows nothing about her misfit family, but after hearing about Charlotte, she enlists his help. He believes her son could use an attitude adjustment. Then Arlene is told about a medical breakthrough with her daughter Violet’s case that is releasing her from the mental institution. Can Arlene’s children ever face responsibility so she and Hank will have a chance? Will Hank be able to find Charlotte? And will Arlene still care for Hank when she learns he used to work for the government? The stakes are high when love is the main course.
No one ever said falling in love and starting over was easy, and seeing how Hank and Arlene come to terms with so many things in their lives allows this reader to believe that things are possible when love is part of the equation. Second Chance Cowboy is a moving tale of love, friendships, misguided feelings, and taking responsibilities. I love the fact that Hank and Arlene are mature individuals who show in-depth emotions and love. B.J. Daniels creates a great read that I found thoroughly entertaining. She also crafts real problems that everyday individuals face and that is what makes this read so great.
