Rob, a graphic designer, learns his father wishes to remove his mother’s coffin from California, to a military base in Texas, where he and his present wife will share the same location.
Emma wants to write the best screenplay that will win an Oscar. After learning what Rob’s dad wishes to do with Lois’ coffin, she thinks it an unusual request. She sets out to write a documentary on the story of Lois.
Rob, Sr. wishes to take his dead wife, Lois’ and place her coffin at a military base so she can be with him when he dies, along with his present wife, Fanny. He wants Rob and Emma to join in the trip. They will transport the coffin with them in the pickup truck. Emma wonders is Fanny bothered by this, but she assures it makes no difference since they were all good friends. Even the gravediggers think it a bit odd. They would have taken the money, for the cost, and gone to Hawaii. Texas bound; Emma plans a documentary on Lois’ life. Of course she feels Rob does not support her efforts. He tells her that he is very supportive of what she does. With tension building inside the truck, a coffin in the back, it will be a surprise if they all get in one piece to the final resting place.
Reverse Angle is a delightful adventure of discovery not only for Emma but the other family members once the road trip and documentary begin. Each individual’s characteristic seems to stand out in this easy on the eyes read. Cate Dodson sketches interesting characters, a different sort of road trip and some unanticipated twists on an escapade that makes the reader feel like they have joined in on the ride.
