Honora is looking forward to her coming marriage. It means freedom from her brutal stepfather and a chance at happiness. She has long lived a life of brutal beatings and no friends and her new husband seems kind and handsome.
Cavan has been a prisoner of the barbarians and does not know the fate of his youngest brother Ronan. Now that he has escaped he is determined to find him and wreak revenge. What he does not want is the little mouse he rejected once before as wife, she should be his brother Artair’s as planned.
Cavan and Honora never planned on being married to each other. Honora thinks him frightening and Cavan was hoping for a brave wife, not the mouse he married. Cavan soon sees that there is much more to the mouse than he first thought. Honora soon falls in love with her wounded warrior who will soon need her more than ever.
This is a wonderful love story set in the 1500’s Scotland. The author really paints a vivid picture of life in that time, so much so that the reader will actually feel that they are at the castle. Honora is a great character who grows so much throughout the story that she is not the same woman who started the tale at the end. Cavan changes a lot also. He is very damaged at the beginning and Honora’s patience and love makes a big difference in him. The other characters are also well written and vividly described from Cavan’s two very different brothers to the evil stepfather Calum. A plot full of trials and Honora’s perseverance make this tale a keeper.
