Desiree Jacobs is a security consultant and the best cat burglar in the world. At times she can be a hard woman to get along with. When she is handed a simple mission involving Mayan artifacts, it is hard to translate the good guys from the bad.
Tony Lucano is Desiree’s fiancé. As an FBI agent he goes above and beyond the call of duty, and more so when Desiree falls into any danger. There is nothing he would not do for her but when an accident threatens their lives, it questions their future together.
Desiree is making plans for her upcoming wedding, with her handsome fiancé Tony, when she is called on assignment. What turns out to be a simple recovery of an artifact turns into archaeological espionage. Desiree is up to her eyeballs in an investigation concerning the priceless relics. At least when she is troubled, she can turn to Tony, who is great at lending comforting kisses and tender hugs. She thinks he is solid gold and cannot wait to marry him. All he needs is to finish his thesis for his master’s degree. When she is called upon for a mission, no one expected any danger to befall her, especially involving illegal drugs and human traffickers. Tony will do everything in his power to be by her side but after trouble befalls Tony, it is up to Desiree to unravel the truth so she and Tony can look forward to their future.
When I read the Reluctant Smuggler I was able to share in many of the emotions and sensations that hit upon Desiree. I loved the part when she and Tony discuss her ring. When the nurse informs only immediate family can visit the patients, and Desiree stands her ground on the subject, I was in complete awe. I could feel her strength behind her words. I think I held my breath the whole time she was pushing her way into the hospital room. Desiree and Tony are spellbinding and fearless characters. I almost felt as if I was related to them, they are so lifelike in every way. Jill Elizabeth Nelson weaves a spine-tingling drama at its best. This extraordinary page-turner kept me glued. I must say this engaging read hooked me at the beginning and never once let go until the end.
