Delphi Brent is at a crossroads in her life. With an offer to go to Maine for work, she decides to take a few months to visit some friends in Colorado first.
Thomas “Tam” Laughlin has loved Delphi for as long as he can remember. But she has always had a crush on his good time party brother. Now that Bobby is engaged, Tam is hoping that Delphi will see him as more than just a good friend.
Before she leaves for her visit, Delphi’s parents sit her down and explain that the hit and run accident from nine years ago was caused by one of the Laughlin brothers. Stunned and hurt that the boys she considered friends would leave her for dead, she is determined to find out the truth. Treading carefully while she is in Colorado, Delphi begins to develop feelings for Tam, seeing the gentle veterinarian that he has become. The question that keeps going round and round her head is whether she can love someone who quite possibly left a teen girl for dead.
Reasons by Ms. Fabre is the type of story that just sneaks up on you. As you read the story and get to know the characters, you find yourself involved in every single aspect of their lives. Delphi comes into the town and sees things that no one else does; knowing she is on the outside looking in helps develop her into a very important character. The up and down emotions we find Tam expressing are very innocent and almost childlike, a perfect match for this sweet and gentle romance. This tale of long-lost love and discovering oneself is a wonderful book with a feel-good ending that gives hope to the romantic in all of us.
