Rory has been in a coma for the last six years. Before that she was the perfect “good girl” and the one time she strayed from the straight and narrow led to her current situation.
Jacob is a famous neurologist specializing in people in long term comas. Rory is a unique case; she seems in perfect health even after being comatose for six years. He is unaccountably drawn to her.
Aurora Jacquard was on vacation with her boyfriend when she inexplicably fell into a coma. Dr. Jacob White is the latest in a series of neurologists called in on the case. At first there seems to be no change, but one night he dreams of her, a very erotic dream, and her brainwaves change. It soon becomes apparent that her coma has a supernatural rather than a natural cause and the formerly rational physician is ready to accept that there are more things on earth than he learned in medical school.
This is an interesting take on the Sleeping Beauty story, the angry godmother being a voodoo priestess named Serafina. The story is a very sensual one, even though the two only meet in their dreams. Rory has been isolated and controlled by her parents her whole life and now Serafina is holding her in yet another prison. The love scenes between the two are very well written and vivid. The voodoo aspects of the story are very interesting, particularly the Loa. The subplot between Jacob’s brother Aaron and Majhani is also very involving. It is interesting to see how these two scientists handled the knowledge that there is more to the world than they previously thought. All of the characters are vividly described, so much so, that they become very real, even the supernatural ones. This book combines a good story line with vivid sex scenes making it a gripping read.
