Talihina Cates has moved back to her home town of Love, Texas after getting divorced. She and her two children have moved back in with her mother. To add to Tali’s worry her daughter acts like she hates her, her son has bad asthma and her mother communes with the dead. Tali is also trying to get a party planning business off the ground with her best friend Renee.
J.T. Bellows is a police officer for the town of Love. He also is the old flame and high school sweet heart of Tali. J.T. wishes Tali could manage to stay out of trouble, and not get mixed up anymore in official police business.
Tali manages to get herself mixed up in a murder on her very first job as a party planner. To make matters worse she mucked up the crime scene. She can not believe her luck. Now everyone in town is starting to think maybe she had something to do with it. To make things even worse, Tali can not seem to mind her own business and stay out of J.T.s way. Together the two of them are either butting heads or trying to ignore the fuzzy feelings they keep having for each other. To make Poor Tali’s life more complicated she now has the ghost of the murder victim haunting her and her family.
Privy to a Murder is a fun and quirky murder mystery. It seems to have a little bit of everything, murder, love, mystery, and a haunting. The main character of Tali is a very likable character that is well written. The story flows well, and you can not help but manage to smile at all the mishaps, and bad luck that Tali finds her self being plagued with. This story had just the right mix of characters that it had you guessing until the end on who was the murderer.
