Lewis Cole is hoping to relax and lie low until after the presidential primary. No longer a Department of Defense analyst, he works as a columnist in the resort town of Tyler Beach. Everything is going well until someone digs into his past.
Spencer Harris is an agent with the secret service of the Boston area. He arrives in Tyler Beach to do some digging into Lewis Cole’s life, as the presidential primary heats up.
Lewis was enjoying the chill in the weather when he is approached by a secret service agent trying to divulge information. Lewis does not like the way Spencer barges in, interrupting his day. He does not understand why Spencer needs to know his reason for leaving the Department of Defense nor his opinion on Senator Hale. When he begins questioning about his interest in Miss Annie Wynn, a volunteer, of the Senator’s campaign, of whom he has been seeing, he believes he has gone too far. Things quickly change when Lewis attends the reception for the Senator. When the Senator is shot, Lewis is a suspect. To make matters worse, Secret Service Glen Reynolds arrives in town and has never heard of a Spencer Harris with the Boston area. Lewis is busy searching for answers while finding his attraction to Annie slightly growing. Time is running out as he investigates who might be responsible for digging into his affairs.
I love the tight language in Primary Storm. The blending of intrigue and mystery that revolves in this story is wonderfully done. I love the character of Lewis, especially when he keeps a cool lid on things when being interrogated by Spencer over his past. The slow budding relationship, he shares with Annie, makes me want to read more about their upcoming possible life together. Brendan Dubois crafts a roller coaster read with a great plot and explosive characters making this one pulse-pounding exciting story. He spins an interesting and convincing book with romance, lies, and suspense, leaving the reader’s adrenaline racing.
